Marine Sciences Laboratory

MSL serves the MHK community as a collaborative research venue where university, industry, and national laboratory partners carry out research. At MSL, partners develop new technologies and solutions to address environmental, operational, and deployment challenges.

Research at MSL is supported by over 70 staff, a scientific dive team supporting in-water research and testing, two state-of-the-art research vessels, 15,000 square feet of marine research laboratories, and immediate access to Sequim Bay and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

The Marine Sciences Laboratory (MSL) is in Sequim, Washington on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. At MSL, over 70 marine scientists and engineers solve problems related to our nation's security, energy independence, and coastal health. We're working on important issues like creating biofuels from algae, harnessing offshore wind and wave energy without compromising surrounding wildlife, mitigating the long-term impacts of human activities on marine resources, and much more.
